I purchased 2 of these lanterns to have on hand for power outages as we live in the boondocks and get frequent power outages due to storms.(someday we will buy a generator!)I wanted something durable and long lasting so was a little disappointed that they are PLASTIC .For approx. $40 ea I was expecting something a little more high end. No where in the description does it say these are plastic...unless I missed it.HOWEVER they work great!!! give off lots of light. ... and are lightweight so maybe that is why they are plastic so they are not bulky to carry around. I gave them 4 stars for not listing the material in the description but other than that I like them!

I bought two of these but both did not work. I charged it for 18 hours as instructed and had the green light as an indication that the battery is fully charged. However, the lantern would not turn on. I searched for the instructions in case there is an additional switch I may have not turned on. What are the chances of getting two defective items? Are they just prone to defects? Both lanterns have rechargeable batter packs (this also was ambiguous to me. I did not want the rechargeable pack but I did not have a choice to pick which one). I am going to buy the batter cartridge and see if this lantern works with that. If it doesn't I am returning them.

Updates:
I ordered the battery cartridge to see if the problem was the chargeable battery. The lantern works with the batteries. I tried on both lanterns I bought (which did not work with the chargeable battery) and they only work with the battery cartridge. I even charged the chargeable battery over 20 hours but no luck and I tested out with the charger still hooked up to the outlet. It worked but with very deem light. As I no longer have the box for the first one I am keeping one, but returning this. Very disappointing.
