I read the bad reviews and was a little skeptical about the process of setting a new code, or the trickiness of unlocking it by having to slide the cable sideways.I bought it anyway, and I don't know what I was worried about. If you have an IQ greater than a potato, and finer dexterity than a quadriplegic buffalo, you will do just fine with this lock. If you have the intelligence of a starchy vegetable, you might have a hard time, but working a lock will be the least of your worries in life.Would I trust this lock with anything I cared about? Absolutely not; not even for a second. You don't buy a lock like this for security, you do it to keep the honest honest. You could bypass this lock in 2 seconds with any number of common tools (I bet I could cut through the cable with a toenail clipper), but it'll work great to keep a stranger from rifling through the dirty laundry in my checked bags on my way home from vacation, and that's really all I need. In all honesty, I bought this less for security, and more to help me identify my bag easier when it's on the baggage claim belt, and I'd easily buy another for the same purpose.

Someone posted earlier that this lock is extremely difficult to reset. I agree whole-heartedly. This lock requires 3 hands to reset it - 1 to hold this small, slippery lock, 1 to turn the tiny dials located very close to one another, 1 to hold in the reset button while you are setting your new combination. The reset button is on the bottom of the lock and is recessed, necessitating you to use some sort of tool like a pen, to keep the button pressed in. If you lose pressure on the button because of the awkward nature of holding the lock, holding the pen/button and spinning the dials, and then you lock the lock, you may not have reset your combination to what you were aiming for. When the lock is open, you have to have the lock set to the correct combination before you can reset it. All of this happened to me and now I can't lock the lock or reset it because I'm unsure of what the combination is that I reset it to - since the combination I wanted doesn't work and the initial factory 000 combination doesn't work either. Supposedly, if I want to cycle through every combination there could be it would eventually unlock, but to me it's not worth the $10+ I spent on this to spend any more time with this thing.

Other Master Locks have a rigid hasp that you turn to 90 degrees which makes it much easier to reset the lock. Definitely don't recommend this lock at all for the difficulty in resetting it.

I've had 2 "locker jobs" in a row so far. At the 1st job I was issued a free small Master lock with keys. Problem was/is that I am afflicted with ADHD (like legitimately diagnosed) and I misplace/lose my keys All. The. Dang. Time. After asking management to cut off the locks so I could get to my car keys & lunch bag, I realized key locks are not the way to go. I ordered this lock for my next locker job and so far so good. Basically, you have to have the given 3 #'s you set it to for opening/closing visible to both open and get the little ball in to close to lock. It's fairly easy to set your given #. However, sometimes I forget to mix up the #'s after I re-lock it and leave the access #'s visible for all to see. But that's my inattentive ADHD at work. If you're not similarly afflicted and don't have a coworker at the jobsite who looks for these kinds of behaviorable patterns, you should be okay.

This travel lock was a good value and it functions as designed. But I have to warn you that it works a bit different than other travel locks, and requires some getting used to. Had I known this lock was so strangely designed, I would have paid the extra $3 and gone for another brand.

For one thing, the order of the three numbers in the combination are vertical (top to bottom) rather than horizontal. You have to get used to holding the lock vertically and entering in the combination this way. It can also be difficult to remember to line the numbers up with the tiny guide dots that are between the numbers. In a dark room, you may have trouble entering in your combination if you can't see where to line up the numbers.

Finally, unlike every other travel lock -- and even unlike any other padlock in general -- the lock unlocks horizontally rather than vertically. Instead of pulling the locking cable out of the lock, you push it to the side. This is so completely counter-intuitive I still struggle with it. And combined with not always knowing where to line up the numbers, you may think you are entering in the wrong combination if you can't see what you are doing and can't see how to pull the cable to the side to unlock it.

The lock is good quality and performs well. I hate to give something that is cheap and well-made a mediocre review. But it's just too awkward to use. Spend a couple extra bucks and get a normal travel lock.
