Omega Closure System

Tumi's patented closure system significantly reduces the risk of damage to the zipper. The Omega zipper puller is designed to break away from the bag if it becomes caught. The puller, rather than the entire zipper, is then quickly and easily replaced.

I did a lot of shopping before taking the plunge and buying this tote. I think it's worth the cost: the oil cloth looks like a flannel business suit from a distance, but is actually extremely durable and easy to keep clean. It's just the right size for the multiple briefing binders I schlep around. I've only used it 6 months, but it appears to be handling the weight and international travel with no wear & tear. A lot of thought went into this design; the two generous exterior pockets are perfect for quick access to my I-phone or security badges. Great interior pockets for my blackberry and pens, but not so many pockets that you lose track of where you put things. One zippered pocket. Straps the perfect length to slip over the shoulder with one arm. It stands upright/doesn't flop over, yet is not heavy like similar canvas bags. I also love the 3-year warranty. I hope to use this for the rest of my life; much more practical than a brief-case.

This is a very practical tote bag that's also reasonably presentable-looking. Very light in weight so it doesn't load you down, and the outside slip pocket is handy for phone or water bottle. I hoped this would be more durable than the average nylon tote, since my experience with other Tumi products has been good. But after about a year of use--not every day, and not especially heavily loaded--the stitching on the bottom is coming out. Tumi is now showing a slightly improved version in their stores (the handles are angled to meet the bottom outer corners of the bag so it looks a bit sharper, and it has a sleeve that lets you slip it over the handle of your rolling suitcase for easy carrying).

I have owned 2 prior Tumi bags, but they are the Turin Shopper & Business Tote. I purchased this in the slate grey for something more casual and versatile. The Slate Grey goes with everything. What I like about this tote is it's roomy interior, but lightweight nylon. I pack quite a bit of stuff for work, including notepads, credentials, snacks, etc., and it holds well and always looks professional and classy. There are a few issues that keep this bag from being great: serious lack of structure (i.e. the bag is floppy), interior pockets, and the black interior. If the bag had a red interior or other contrasting color, it would be much improved. Additionally, the interior pockets aren't deep, so a lot of things I put in them almost always fall out, causing the bag to be messy by the end of the day/week. I don't have the strap issues others have; I find the straps and the leather details to be quite well done as I would expect from Tumi. I've traveled with the bag on numerous occasions for weekend trips (personal & business) and found it be just fine. Overall, good size and nicely made, but unfortunately, there is great room for improvement on a $225 bag, which is not what I expected from Tumi.

This tote looked fantastic until I took out the fluffy stuffing and put my stuff in it. The bag in the photos has to be stuffed with paper. This bag has no structure, it's just seamed fabric. Filled with the contents of my Dooney and Bourke tote, the Tumi droops and looks very sloppy - one source of the problem is way the handles are sewn in relation to the top piece (where zipper is). Had the handles been sewn up to the top seam, it would look much better. I also foresee the strap seams ripping if this bag is used to carry the volume of contents that its size would suggest.

Carrying the bag is not comfortable or secure. The straps are just short enough that I can't carry it across my body when I would like to be more in control. And because of their thin width, the straps constantly slide down my shoulders, even over non-slippery clothing. The result is a bag that wants to slip slide away, making me look like a pickpocket's dream when I'm trying to get things in and out of it.

As another reviewer said, the inside pockets are shallow and nothing stays put for long, not even my iPhone 5.

This is a very expensive tote carrying a prestigious label. But in normal use, it just looks like a sloppy nylon bag. Even worse, it doesn't perform like it should for $225.

I'm now on my second Tumi Luggage Voyaguer Tote. Three years ago I searched all over Manhattan for the perfect bag and finally found it on a business trip to Philadelphia. Light-weight, almost indestructible, goes with everything, goes everywhere. I love it.

It easily holds a laptop. Has a zippered pocket inside for valuables. And dedicated pockets for a smart phone and a pen. Closes with a zipper. In other words, you can put it through airport security without fear of things falling out. Has an outside pocket for a newspaper or umbrella.

My only minor criticism is that I'd like to see them come out with better colors. So far, I'm sticking to black.
