About the Brand

In 1971, Arran Stephens and a business partner opened Canada's first large organic supermarket, LifeStream. Founded on the ideal of serving delicious, wholesome foods grown and processed in harmony with nature, the store soon expanded into milling, baking, making muesli, granolas, alfalfa sprouts, nut butters, energy bars, and wholesale distribution. Within a few years, the LifeStream line had grown to include a wide range of products, including both natural and organic whole grain foods and soy-based vegetarian entrees. The company even published its own vegetarian cookbook, which sold over 125,000 copies. Annual sales at LifeStream reached $9 million, making the line one of Canada’s leading natural food brands at the time. LifeStream sales continued to grow to $12 million, but an awkward partnership led to the sale of the company in 1981. It eventually was acquired by Kraft/Phillip Morris.

Then in 1985, Arran and his wife, Ratana, started a new venture christened Nature’s Path, from the back of their natural foods restaurant. The company’s first product, Sprouted Organic Manna Bread, debuted at the Natural Products Expo in Anaheim, Calif. Organic Multigrain, Multigrain & Raisin, and Millet Rice Flakes were the very first Nature’s Path cereals and remain as popular as ever. By 1989, building on the success of its cereals, the company had grown 800%. To meet demand, acreage was bought and a 54,000 square foot organic processing plant was built in Delta, British Columbia, Canada. This was the first third-party certified organic cereal plant in the world. Later, ten years after starting Nature's Path, the Stephens family purchased back LifeStream from Kraft. Since, the company has continue to expand its facilities and the brands and products it offers--adding waffles, additional cereals, granola and energy bars, flaxseed meal, baking mixes, and more.

Squishy Tiny Puffs............... Another Recommendation, See Photos~
I haven't tried plain millet before to be able to compare this to another but I didn't personally caare for these Millet Puffs. Ordered it because we love this cereal, Nature's Path Organic Kamut Puffs Cereal, 6-Ounce Bags (Pack of 12) and this Millet version was such a great value...To us, it tasted a bit like a cross between Styrofoam and cardboard but not quite that bad, lol. If you spill any, these tiny puff balls stick like Styrofoam does,.... Static cling to everywhere, ha! Chewy anyway. I rated these up a star because they are organic, low-cal, and healthy but we wouldn't eat it without either flavored protein powder or some sweetener.12 bags is a lot to order if you haven't tried this before but Subscribe and Save savings make for a great deal and we will mix it with our other puffs for better taste. Wouldn't recommend to others unless you know you like Millet, as I've read many people do. Otherwise, the Kamut Puffs are equally light but have a bit better bite and taste, in our opinion...3 stars, we think this is just okay. Uploading photos, lol so you can get a closer look! Smile. Hope this is helpful.

Some students of nutrition believe that it is good to balance your intake of nutrients in terms of the effect the food will have on your body's pH balance. Some foods are thought to be more acidic, and others more alkaline. I like oatmeal, and I feel that it is a very healthy food to eat for breakfast, but it seems that it may be somewhat acidic, from what I can gather. According to one source of information about the role of foods on one's pH balance, millet is one of the few grains that is more alkaline. So in the interest of seeking a better pH balance, I ordered Nature's Path Organic Millet Puffs Cereal, and I was not disappointed. I mix these millet puffs with some oatmeal, a little spelt, some wheat germ, a dusting of cinnamon, and organic nonfat milk. These millet puffs are tasty, and easy to chew, not to mention that they are very reasonably priced. I am pleased to include them as part of my breakfast, and I recommend that you try them.

I really love puffed millet and the price here was better than at the local store. However, every time I have ordered it I have received a shipment that is not very fresh and why should I buy a product and then have to place it in the oven in order to make it less stale tasting? When I buy it from the store at least it is crisp and enjoyable to eat which is the way millet should be. I have purchased this product three times but will not again-- yes, I have finally learned my lesson. IMO, cereal should not be limp until you place it in milk or other beverage.

I should have read the ingredients list more carefully, but I was half expecting these little corn puffs to taste like Sugar Corn Pops. Since they have no salt or sugar at all, they really have no flavor...at all. I won't buy them again. I do believe this is my bad (my lack of awareness), but I just find them too boring, and my kids do, too. We'll mix our remaining 9 bags with other cereals so that the product doesn't go to waste.

I made the unfortunate assumption that organic corn puffs would be wheat-free. The online product info doesn't say either way, but the package, once you receive it, does warn that they're made in a facility that also processes wheat. As someone who does fine with corn but is allergic to wheat, I had a violent reaction to them. They taste good, but they're definitely not for anyone who needs to avoid wheat; that should be prominently stated in their description.

This is a good product and were it certified gluten free, I'd have given it 5 stars. My kids like it, even the older ones. It's plain, naturally, but that's the idea. While it hasn't caused any serious reactions, we're not seriously allergic to gluten, just intolerant.

For those who are dairy free, we've served it with rice milk, (we tend to avoid soy milk as too much if it isn't good for kids due to the hormonal influence), hot cocoa (dairy free; this makes it into a hot cereal that can be more fun than simply cooking hulled millet.)

We buy it by the case on subscription to save money as it's difficult to find any plain millet where we live.

Staying on a gluten free, sugar free diet isn't always easy. These corn puffs aren't only great for breakfast cereal, they are a great snack. When others are snacking on fatty and sugary foods, those of us who cannot tolerate those food types can pour out a portion of puffed corn and snack on it while watching or competing in the "big game" or taking in a movie or favorite TV program. This whole grain tastes great by itself, and if you cannot tolerate milk, it has a great flavor "dry" or add your favorite fruit juice.

This is the perfect cereal. Eat plain out of the bag, or with milk. Our favorite: measure desired amount into a saucepan, mixed with 1/2 as much muesli (we use Bob's red mill) or other whole grain cereal. We have used oatmeal, rice cereal, 10-grain, etc. Add very hot to boiling water to cover - we have our Zojirushi water pot set at 208 degrees so water is always ready -we set pan onto warming zone on electric solid surface range. Let stand to absorb liquid and keep warm same time. Perfect. We do a smear of plain no fat Greek yogurt in bottom of a bowl, add cooked cereal, then fruit, and/or raw nuts; sprinkle cinnamon, smidgen of freshly ground nutmeg. Top with desired amount of favorite breakfast "milk". We use Unsweetened almond. Special mornings; drizzle with real maple syrup. Thing like best about the millet; it is an alkaline forming grain, unlike other cereal grains that are acidic. Enjoy!

I do not know if this was stale or if it just tasted stale but it tasted horrible. I would return it but I had to open it to taste it and I don't know is it will be accepted with an open package. I am going to try to return it.
