HDD upgrade SSD

Don't get left behind with legacy technology

Every task performs on computing devices today, from editing large 4K/HD video clips, retouching hi-res images, joggling complex multimedia files, managing vast playlist or music library and of course online gaming, at home or away - demands faster, more nimble and most importantly stable storage option to keep your data safe. Systems will boot-up and shutdown faster, programs will run faster, battery will last longer and overall system performance will improve simply by replacing old hard disk drives with SSD.

With no moving mechanical parts, SSD is much more forgiving in protecting valuable data if host devices were dropped or subjected to severe shock/vibration unintentionally. Under same condition, data corruption and total loss of data likely will occur with conventional hard disk drives. Faster hard drives only make much louder noises, generate much more heat, drain battery much quicker but still will not outperform SSD like SP600.

Improve system performance today by upgrading to ADATA Premier SP600 SSD.

So, people say 32GB is not enough space for Windows 8.1 64 bit, I can..... YES IT IS.

I've installed Windows 8.1 Pro 64 Bit on this drive with all the newest Windows Updates and I still have right at 9GB free, of course 32 bit would be smaller but I wanted the 64 bit version on the machine I was rebuilding.

This drive is great, the read is a little less than advertised but that is to be expected, this can change depending on how much data is on the drive, how much the drive has been used, and the type of SATA controller on your motherboard, but what surprised me.. the fact that the WRITE was 1MB higher than advertised, I am really impressed that ADATA advertised the 32GB model at 35MB and I almost pulled 37MB, that don't sound like much, but drives rarely get what they advertise.

The random/sequential of the drive were great, they made my old Phenom x4 AM2 a speed demon again.

https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=g6knb4YBsQQ is the link to the video review I made, please stop and check it out.

I went from 1 minute 5 seconds boot to 14.15 seconds boot. Watch the video to see the results. It's crazy!

The drive has worked flawlessly thus far. My boot time is less then ten seconds. No BSODs. If you plan on installing Win7 or 8 on this then your going to have problems. After all was installed I float between 2Gb and 500MB free space. That is with only basic plug-ins, extensions and very small, essential programs installed. Even though I have all my games and programs and media stored on a 1.5 TB, it always leaves something on C:. While it's easier to install programs on a drive other then C:, it's still far from perfect. The other thing I realized is my Dollar-to GB ratio would have been much better had I gone with a 128 GB from Kingston or OCZ when on sale. More space and faster flops. All in all a good product just make sure you think about your OS and how your space needs. I'll pick up a larger one on Black Friday or after Christmas and clone the drive so as to avoid the head ache of reinstall.

This SSD isn't so bad. Dropped it in an asus k55n and put linux mint nadia on it w/ no problems and about 24 gigs to spare. Boot to gmail in 22 seconds. Faster if you skip the typing and you don't count the time it takes for the bios to skip all the secure-boot crap. Loads everything pretty fast and the read benchmarks @ 403.6 MB/s when not writing. Write was in the neighborhood of 120 MB/s when not reading. If you ran benchmarks simultaneously you get about 3/4 that for read and 1/3rd that for write. Not nearly as fast as my crucial m4 however it is a larger drive with more pipes so it is to be expected.

This is a small SSD people. You won't get the performance of a big beefy 240GB+ ssd from a small 32gig. They just aren't made that way. In all honesty I was not expecting to get even stated speeds with this lil drive however it completely surprised me with the read bench. Blew the rated spec out of the water. Still way faster than a mech drive and though it isn't very large, I knew this going in and only bought it as a temporary drive that would move from machine to machine for testing purposes.

If you're looking for "holy crap" speed and you're used to SSDs already then this lil drive won't impress you much however if you're looking to breathe new life into an old laptop or speed up grandma's "facebook-box" and need just enough bang for not alot of buck then this will fit the bill.

I was attracted to this as it's size is perfect for a Pfsense install. Initial setup was ok, but it seems this drive may not be worth of a 24/7 rig; it failed on me within a couple of weeks of use. I had purchased a second one for a Linux media server for my NAS, but now I don't have the confidence to install this drive in that machine, either. In fairness to ADATA, I may have just gotten a bad unit my first time out with them since they happen, but now I'm on the hunt for a slightly more recognized brand. I'll keep the extra drive handy in case I encounter a use for it which may be lighter duty, but I can't recommend this if you're looking to do a router/nas/server install. I'm skeptical it can handle the load.

Speed is fine, works fine in a desktop.

But in some of my laptops that have a slot for the drive this device will not fit. It slides in just fine as it's the same width of a regular drive, but the sata connectors on the back are a fraction higher than a regular drive. So when it slides down in the drive slot it will not plug into the connector, as it's just slightly too high. If your laptop has a compartment where you can reach the connector by hand you might be fine, but if your drive is a slot that you have to slide the drive into watch out because it probably won't fit.

Tiny SSD, but you get what you pay for. Used as a small OS drive just to hold the operating system and some simple small programs for a simple task computer. Works great and is quick to boot. Installed Windows 7 64bit quickly. Upon boot, the little balls of the Win 7 logo don't even come together before the computer is at the login screen. It is a small drive however. During installation, Windows setup could only use ~28GB of the 32GB. Typical for any hard drive formatted for NTFS, but after a full Windows 7 installation including the loads of updates, I only had about 5-10GB left of free space.

Might be nice as a cache drive in a FreeNAS or an unRAID. Might work great in a netbook.

Snappy and a decent price, ideal for something like XBMC - I'm happy with the purchase, I'd recommend again; SSD's tend to be pretty pricey so I'm happy with the purchase and it came with screws!

3.0 out of 5 stars Lower read/write speeds than stated on Adata's website. Cheap though!
Reviewed in the United Kingdom on November 2, 2014
Capacity: 32 GBStyle: 2.5" 2D MLCVerified Purchase
The read/write speeds that you'll find on Adata's website are for the SP600 series as a whole which is just downright misleading. This particular model comes in nowhere near those specs.

The actual read/write speeds from the product box for the 32GB model are 220MB/s read and only 35MB/s (I haven't missed a digit, it's really 35) write, so you will definitely want to bear this in mind prior to purchasing. That said, the product is very well priced and performs much better than a mechanical disk, given that there's pretty much zero seek time.

You would definitely struggle to install Windows on this disk and keep it under 32 GB, but it I've got plenty of space when using it with OpenELEC (a thin Linux with XBMC), and bootup performance is significantly better than when I used a mechanical disk in the same machine with the same OS.
